Today
we got up early and packed our stuff for the journey. When we were done,
I went down to the pier to take a picture of the fisherman’s boat from
last night. To my astonishment it had already been removed. First I
thought that the owner had taken it back during the night, but the real
story followed at the breakfast table. The owner had come early and had
very angrily demanded his boat back, but when Toby had threatened to go
to the police in Mupulungu the gillnet had quickly been recovered and
given in exchange for getting the boat back. After breakfast we unloaded
our equipment in to a glass-fiber boat that took us the final 45 minutes
to Kalambo, where our crew and wooden boat were waiting. First we had to
pass through an immigration office to get our visas for Tanzania. We did
so without any problems and at around noon we headed for Wampembe, which
is near Fulwe Rock. Just outside Wampembe are some big rocks, and when
we arrived at four thirty in the p.m. we had just enough time for a
little snorkeling. It was a fantastic experience with a lot of Petroes
and Tropheuses.
